A new study from the University of Pennsylvania looks at the factors that help young black men succeed in an education system that has historically failed them.

Light-skinned women were sentenced to an average of 12 percent less time than their darker-skinned peers, and served an average of 11 percent less time in jail, the study found. The researchers used similar crimes to compare sentences, so that they could generate the most accurate, relevant results.
The study, called “The Impact of Light Skin on Prison Time for Black Female Offenders,” is part...

Khader Adnan - Death or Freedom, Death for Freedom
makemymark:
Khader Adnan will die, soon. In doing so he will be liberated from his oppressors and inspire all of us. He is heroically embarking on his sixty-third day of hunger strike. The idea of going without food for sixty-three hours is a testing one, sixty-three days is incomprehensible. Khader Adnan’s steely resolve is unbreakable, death or freedom, death for freedom.

Spike Lee Dropping Knowlegde
THR: Looking at the most successful movie of the year to feature black talent, The Help, why do you think the film was able to transcend racial boundaries and be both a commercial and critical hit?
Lee: OK, let me ask you a question: Why did Driving Miss Daisy win best picture in 1989? That's my answer.

‘A group of Caribbean’s arriv[ing] unannounced on a boat’ is how Samuel Kasumu, social entrepreneur and political commentator, summarises the Black presence in Britain and the beginning of the immigration debate in the UK. In a poorly written article series titled ‘The Origins of Race Policy‘ Kasumu presents a counterfeit history showing no evidence of research above the level of hearsay....
BGKI: Reclaiming The Cult Of Beauty →
blackacrylic:
Black love is often political. Whilst there is consistent dialogue on the erosion of love between black men and black women we need more conversation about the self-love deficit that often rears its ugly head as a result of black women’s exclusion from the cult of beauty. I believe that self-love is a prerequisite to feel anything worth feeling so it’s...
nouore asked: I was going through the tracked tags and saw your post on the movie "City of Men". I just wanted to say that you should watch "City of God" and then the "City of Men" series, if you have not already. While "City of God" is a good introduction to the setting, the "City of Men" movie really ties up the whole experience.
