I just wanted to say that you should watch "City of God" and then the "City of Men" series, if you have not already. While "City of God" is a good introduction to the setting, the "City of Men" movie really ties up the whole experience.

I’ve actually seen all of them. I saw ‘City of God’ first, and then the ‘City of Men TV series’ (although someone stole my box set whilst I was at uni), I saw the ‘City of Men’ movie last. The entire collection definitely joins The Wire as some of the most meaningful dramatic reflections on Black life, in my opinion.
